Crestor Contraindications
Crestor refers to a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibors, known by a more commonly used term ‘statins’. The medications from this group are directed to lower the body’s levels of triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) rising at the same time the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL).
What refers concretely to Crestor and its usage, it is widely prescribed to lower the cholesterol levels and to treat various heart disorders. This drug can be also prescribed to children of 10 years and older.
Crestor contraindications include the following points:
- People with a known hypersensitivity to any component of this drug are forbidden to take it, as it can provoke such hypersensitivity reactions as rash, pruritus, urticaria and angioedema.
- Those people who suffer from active liver disease, which may include unexplained persistent elevations of hepatic transaminase levels are also strictly banned to use Crestor without medical supervision.
- Women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant are not recommended to take Crestor because this drug may cause fetal harm when administered by pregnant women. Besides, there was not defined any apparent benefit in therapy with Crestor during pregnancy. Moreover, safety in pregnant women has not been established and it can put at risk not only a pregnant woman’s life but also the life of her unborn child. Therefore it is recommended to be extremely attentive in what concerns taking Crestor and possible pregnancy.
- The information for nursing mothers. As it is known the drugs belonging to the class of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors can cause serious adverse reactions in nursing infants. Therefore women who are on Crestor treatment must not breast-feed their infants.
